I think they raised around R1million

Zuma's legal fees are expected to amount to around 12 million for this trial only. I'm not sure how much was involved with the rape trial

It aws reported yesterday on 702 that it will be more than the previously announced 12million.

I don't see why government/tax payers should cover his legal costs!!
If he wants a fancy/expensive lawyer, then he should pay for it.
If I go to court and I want a different lawyer, then I have to pay for it, so why should it be different for him.
He is not even a member of the gov anymore(as far I know)

A man who can't run his own bank account (hence Shaik) - how could he possibly get it together now? And he wants to run the country. Aah, money, money, money - conferences and song. Sound familiar?

jz is a putz. I hope the "presidency" declines the request. no one should be in a position to handpick state provided attorneys - this luxury is not afforded to anyone, so why should this tit get different treatment? it's bad enough he still has a SAPS security detail sitting in his home - something us tax payers are paying for....

It seems when it's convenient, we forget Wouter Basson and Magnus Malan - now do we ?

basson and malan did not handpick their entire legal team - Zuma expects to. Also, Zuma is being charged on a personal level. Basson and Malan were both instruments in the former government's heinous and attrocious activities, and much of their trials were as much an idictment of the apartheid crimes as well as personal crimes, especially as the crimes committed by the 2 were sanctioned directly by the government of the time. That was also a major theme of both of their trials...

Unless Zuma can prove that he was ordered to commit fraud by the SA government, then he cannot apply for the same legal representation conditions as is the case with WB and MM. Which may be a reason why JZ is so keen to publicise alleged presidential links in the whole Arms deal.
