Zuma's speeches Who writes them?

I was watching Zuma (The President in waiting) "deliver" a speech today on SABC2. at some typical HOO-HAA ANC rally. And it became patently obvious that the man had very little grasp of what it was that he was reading. I would dearly like to know who writes this stuff for these politicos. Same thing with Mbeki's announcing the "stepping down" of Selebi. He (Mbeki) appeared positively shell shocked by what he was himself saying. How is anyone supposed to give credence to anything they utter, when either they dont believe what they're saying themselves or don't even seem to understand what they're saying/reading? Could anyone throw some light on this ghost writer. :confused:

Mbeki writes his own speeches... that's why they take so long.
edit: Zuma's speeches are pro'lly written by Ranjeni Munusamy.

Granted if they predominantly speak Xhosa and Zulu I could understand the English difficulty but I don't think its that entirely. Mbeki's speech writer ran South Africa last year. Never understood why Mbeki didn't just speak in Xhosa/Zulu because he'd always stop mid sentence. He really didn't care what he was reading/saying. Zuma will probably get the same guy as Mbeki, don't see why they'd change him.

Zuma is pretty OK when he is talking off the cuff. Far better than Mbeki IMHO> true. Except when he finishes every speech off with that machine gun song. I suspect that's going to be a permanent feature. :o

Actually, anyone know where I can download that song? I've tried but I guess I'd have to buy the album and rip it. :(

Zuma, like Mbeki and other politicians have either a speechwriter, or teams of speechwriters, considering that Mbeki was educated in London, and was the speechwriter for O R Tambo, I do not understand why some of you would believe that he has no grasp of the english language. I am willing to bet that he is more literate than most of us on this forum

More literate? Can he read better? He certainly fails miserably with enunciation. Thankfully his days in SA politics are numbered. Can't wait to see the back of that jackass.

P.S. I was schooled in the UK - it's not as good as you seem to believe. Except at University level.
 
I know that Mbeki has a writer.. but Zuma seems more spontaneous . . lol

Reason I say.. when Zuma was elected presi of ANC Mbeki had like this speach about "changing of the seasons and flowers and rain and crap - but Zuma was like eh I wud laaik to tank my comradez

I’ve never truly understood what seems to be white South Africa’s problem with black South African accents. I have never heard of a German or French president, to use an example, being slighted for their accents when speaking English.

I think what BobbyMac was referring to is the way some English words are pronounced.

Like 'category', for example. It's cat-e-go-ry, not ca-te-gory.
And 'mechanism'. It's me-cha-ni-sm, not mecha-ni-sm.

Indeed. However, as per xtermin8or's usual unwavering defense of old T-Bone, it was pointed out that the tool was schooled in London. His accent certainly does not indicate that he paid attention while receiving his world class education. Be that as it may, an accent is one thing, failure to correctly enunciate the words (due in part to stupidity and the rest to inability to listen how it should be pronounced) is entirely different.

As for Merkel suffering the same fate, I'm afraid you're very wrong. She is rather well spoken, and apart from the accent, she certainly possesses a good command of the English language. Old philosophising T-Bone does not.
 
BobbyMac - i did say someone like merkel. what i should have perhaps said was a non-native english speaking politician might have the same problem.

also given mbeki was around 20 when he was sent to exile one would imagine that his grasp of english was already cemented by that stage.
 
BobbyMac - have you ever actually listened to Mbeki speak, I find that he is actually very understandable, he was at university level in the UK. I find it strange that you say he can't enunciate, when he clearly is one of the best orators in Government. Next you will say Naledi Pandor can't speak english

Thabo Mbeki's enunciation is crap. Just like most of the rest of his "skills".

It may well be English but when it's a load of cr@p what is the point anyway?:cool:
