Zyxel VMG1312-B10A VDSL Modem / Router Problems !

I had a similar issue with a Zyxel AMG1202-10B. It started dropping devices after being fine for quite some time. I updated the firmware and it now seems to be stable again.
 
I'm on telkom fibre, not sure if updating firmware will screw up my Zyxel connection settings. I would like to give it a go but i'm scared I'll never be able to fix it again.

Don't want to rely on telkom to fix it. :(
 
On the AMG1202 you can backup and restore settings/passwords etc. Yours should also have this feature.
