Aggressively priced BlackBerry packages from Vodacom
Hot on the heels of the launch of Red Bull Mobile’s aggressively priced “RBM” contract packages, Vodacom has revealed that they will launch two similarly priced BlackBerry offerings on 20 February 2011.
The new BlackBerry Top Up contracts to be offered are as follows:
- BlackBerry Curve 8520 for R149 per month on Top Up 135 S
- BlackBerry Bold 9700 for R249 per month on Top Up 200 S
The Top Up 135 S contract includes R135 worth of airtime per month, whereas the Top Up 200 S includes R200 worth of airtime per month.
Both contracts are billed per-second and include a subscription to the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) which typically costs R59 per month.
Competition to Red Bull Mobile?
These two Vodacom Blackberry packages are potentially priced to compete with Cell C’s newly launched Red Bull Mobile contracts that are set at exactly the same price points.
Red Bull Mobile’s RBM 100 contract costs R149 per month while their RBM 200 package costs R249 per month. Both RBM packages offer a selection of two phones and include 100 and 200 of anytime voice minutes respectively. These two packages also include data bundles (250MB and 500MB respectively) and SMS bundles (50 and 100 SMSs respectively).
Vodacom’s new BlackBerry packages at the same price points provide R135 or R200 of airtime per month respectively, but include unlimited Internet access through BIS. It should however be noted that BIS excludes streaming media services like YouTube.
