Cell C today announced that they will be compensating their BlackBerry customers for the prolonged downtime this week.

Cell C said that they will give their customers R10 off the cost of their Blackberry Internet/Enterprise Service for the month of October and 10 free SMSes for the time they could not use Blackberry Messenger.

“While Cell C had no role in the service disruption, the company wants to ensure customers are compensated for the loss of service as a gesture of goodwill. Customers will receive more information about the compensation via SMS next week,” the company said in a press statement.

This news follows Virgin Mobile’s announcement that they will compensate their BlackBerry subscribers with R50 free airtime in October.

To date MTN and Vodacom have not provided information as to whether their BlackBerry subscribers can also expect compensation.
