Vodacom’s head of digital media, Prins Mhlanga, has confirmed that the network operator will no longer run the DStv Select bouquets and that subscribers on either of the packages will be migrated to MultiChoice.

“This move will be seamless for existing customers who will continue to have exactly the same commercial terms as before subject to specific billing cycles,” Mhlanga said.

Before customers are moved they will be contacted individually, Mhlanga said, explaining that subscribers would be presented with all the MultiChoice pay-TV offerings and will be able to continue with DStv Select or choose any of the other available options.

Mhlanga said that there will be no changes to the DStv mobile streaming or DVB-H offerings.

Vodacom entered the broadcasting and multimedia game in 2007 with two satellite pay-TV packages, now called DStv Select 1 and DStv Select 2.

Just over four years later, Vodacom has handed over the reins of the product to MultiChoice.

In a statement provided to MyBroadband, both companies said that the reason for the migration is “to provide a streamlined and seamless service to customers.”

Update your billing information

DStv Select subscribers will continue to receive the DStv Select bouquet as usual, MultiChoice said, adding that their channel line-up and subscription fees will not be affected.

As the billing will now be managed by MultiChoice, DStv Select subscribers will:

  • Receive their DStv Select statements directly from MultiChoice; and
  • Need to change their debit order instructions from Vodacom to MultiChoice.

“We urge customers to update their payment details with MultiChoice by the 1st of November 2011 to avoid having their DStv Select services discontinued,” MultiChoice said.

MultiChoice said that the last debit order from Vodacom for the DStv Select service would have been on 3 October 2011 for the amount of R157.
