Alan Knott-Craig on network quality and pricing
Cell C today (19 January 2012) announced that former Vodacom CEO Alan Knott-Craig will take over as CEO and join the board of directors of Cell C on 1 April 2012.
“After a break from the telecommunications industry, I am looking forward to being at the helm of Cell C. I am excited about the challenge of making Cell C a more effective competitor to the dominant players,” said Knott-Craig.
Knott-Craig said that he still has to familiarize himself with the company, and hence could not comment on former CEO Lars Reichelt’s strategy and whether consumers can expect the same from him.
Knott-Craig did however tell MyBroadband that network quality is his primary concern, and that good pricing is secondary to ensuring that users have a great experience using Cell C’s services. “You cannot price yourself into the game,” said Knott-Craig.
The new Cell C CEO added that data will remain a key focus area for Cell C. “Data is a sexy product, and you have to make sure you offer the latest technology and products,” said Knott-Craig.
Knott-Craig did however point out that while data is on top of consumers’ minds, voice revenue is what finances data and will continue to be a key focus area for the company.
