MTN OneRate: 3.1 cents per second
MTN South Africa launched its OneRate PayAsYouGo service this week, which provides its customers with what it claims to be “the lowest per second prepaid call rates to all networks during peak call times.”
MTN OneRate is a prepaid flat rate that is available all day to all networks. “With MTN’s True Per Second billing structure, customers pay as little as 3.1 cents per second, all day, to any network. That is a saving of 35 percent on the standard prepaid peak time rates,” MTN said in a press statement.
SMS rates on MTN OneRate have been reduced to 50 cents per SMS, which the company says is currently the lowest peak time SMS rate. This applies to all SMSs, sent at any time to any network. The MTN OneRate service also offers seven free call backs per day, one free daily SMS and the full MTN voicemail service.
Says Serame Taukobong, chief marketing officer of MTN South Africa, “The MTN OneRate price plan is engineered to be simple, flexible and transparent, to give each subscriber peace of mind. It is aimed at those prepaid subscribers who make a lot of calls during office hours. Subscribers know exactly what they’re paying for on every call. More importantly, subscribers know exactly how much they are saving with every call and are able to manage their costs.”
This offer comes around three weeks after Cell C unveiled its Easy Chat All Day tariff of R1-50 per minute which is available across all of Cell C’s package deals. This is a flat rate that applies regardless of the time the call is made, who the call is made to and what network the call is made on.
Virgin Mobile also recently launched its “99’er’s” rate of 99 cents per minute, all day, every day, to all networks after the first five minutes of calls per day (which are charged at R1.99 per minute).
