MWEB WiMax trial to continue
MWEB’s WiMax trial license expired yesterday, putting their extensive WiMax trials involving 830 users and 7 active base stations at risk.
MWEB has however confirmed that their WiMax trials will continue for now with the blessing of ICASA.
According to feedback, ICASA had difficulty in getting all the relevant managers together to make a decision on MWEB’s application for an extension to their current trial license, and has decided to allow MWEB to continue their trials until they can make an official decision on this issue.
MWEB has had great success with their current trial WiMax rollout and service delivery, and is planning an eighth tower in Cresta, Johannesburg, which should lift their total user base to around 1 000 active users.
