Afrihost ADSL and Mobile – major network problems
Afrihost is advising all ADSL and Mobile clients that there is a “High-Impact” problem affecting its network across South Africa.
“Our engineers believe the issue is related to authentication. We’d like to advise clients not to reboot their ADSL routers or Mobile Data devices until the issue is resolved,” said Afrihost on its website.
“We are receiving reports of poor ADSL and Mobile Data performance from all regions. Our network team are investigating this as highest priority and aim to restore normal connectivity as soon as possible.”
Axxess posted a similar statement on its website, apologizing for the problem. Afrihost and Axxess share an upstream provider – MTN.
Afrihost’s ADSL and Mobile network issues follow a recent DDoS attack on MTN, which resulted in connectivity problems for Afrihost and Axxess clients on 16 October.
Earlier in the week, Afrihost and Axxess ADSL users in Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth, and the surrounding areas reported being unable to connect to the Internet.
Afrihost said at the time a network issue affected the IP Connect links and the core network in the southern region, which was to blame for the connection issues.
Afrihost said its new ADSL network, currently running as Afrigreen, is not affected by the current authentication issues.
