Big names join CliffCentral line-up

CliffCentral.com, Gareth Cliff’s streaming radio station, issued a press statement on Thursday, 26 June 2014 regarding their new line-up and the show being dropped from Comedy Central.

“Contrary to some media reports, this is not a failure for CliffCentral and, in fact, has the team really excited about refocusing on delivering streamed, interactive content between 6am and 6pm every week day,” CliffCentral said in the statement.

“CliffCentral is all about using an experimental platform to deliver unrestricted radio content in an interactive way,” Gareth Cliff was quoted as saying. “The Comedy Central deal was just an add-on. We felt initially that an additional television audience would expand our reach, in reality, it was holding us back from doing the crazy, fun, provocative stuff we needed to be doing with our new platform.”

He said that the original idea behind CliffCentral is “alive and well and kicking”.

“We’re experimenting here, and part of the process is knowing when something is a bad idea,” Cliff said.

According to CliffCentral, the numbers bear out CliffCentral’s rise to success in the interactive mobile space.

In two months, the station said it has attracted 108,000 subscribers on its official WeChat account, over 40,000 followers on Facebook, and over 25,000 followers on Twitter, “with high engagement taking place across all channels.”

The CliffCentral.com website has had just under a million page views and over 150,000 users in that time.

Its first set of statistics is being compiled and CliffCentral said it intends to share them soon.

New line-up

The station’s new line-up has also been finalised and features:

  • Stan Katz, The Stan Katz Experiment
  • Casper de Vries, The CasperRadio Show
  • Trevor Gumbi, TG Squared
  • Tony Ndoro, “Not the 9” Sport
  • Penny Lebyane
  • Tumisho Masha
  • Arye Kellman, CliffCentral Conversations

“I’m delighted to reclaim my studio from all the cameras, cables and lights that inevitably come with TV. The vast majority of my audience are thrilled they won’t have to look at me and can keep listening instead,” said Cliff.

CliffCentral content including live streaming and all podcasts can be accessed via its website or any smartphone by downloading WeChat and subscribing to the official CliffCentral account.

The show is broadcast from 06:00 to 18:00 every weekday.
