DStv prices against inflation
MultiChoice announced its annual price adjustments for DStv last month, with the fees of most packages set to increase from 1 April 2024.
Monthly fees for DStv will go up by between R10 and R50 per month, translating to increases of 3.1% to 7.8%.
Statistics South Africa has determined that the average inflation for 2023 was 5.95%.
DStv Premium subscriptions will increase by 5.7%, from R879 to R929 per month.
DStv Compact Plus was one of two above-inflationary increases, with its monthly fee going up by 6.9% from R579 to R619.
However, DStv Access will see the biggest increase at 7.8%, with its subscription going from R129 to R139 per month.
MultiChoice explained that DStv Access subscribers would also receive a major upgrade to its sports offering in the form of La Liga football.
DStv Compact and DStv Family received the smallest increases of 4.5% and 3.1%, respectively.
A DStv Compact subscription will soon increase from R449 to R469 per month, while DStv Family will rise from R319 to R329.
The price of DStv EasyView will remain unchanged at R29 per month.
DStv EasyView has been R29 per month since increasing from R20 per month in 2013. MultiChoice briefly increased it to R39 in 2015, but decreased it again in 2016.

MultiChoice first launched DStv Access in 2010 — then branded as “DStv Lite” — for R99 per month.
It rebranded the product in 2013, keeping the price unchanged.
DStv Access remained R99 until 2019, when it was increased to R105 per month.
Since then, MultiChoice has increased the price DStv Access every year along with most of its other packages.
