New DStv channels in development
DStv is expected to launch a new African language channel in the next few weeks featuring reality and game shows in languages such as Zulu and Xhosa, an industry source has told MyBroadband.
MultiChoice declined to confirm or deny the development of a new channel, with a spokesperson providing the following statement:
When we are ready to announce the launch of new channels, we will do so. At present, there is nothing to announce.
Without official confirmation from MultiChoice it is possible that some of the details might change, however indications are that the channel will be called “Mzansi Wethu”.
According to the source, the channel is currently set to launch on 6 May 2013.
Well-known television journalist Thinus Ferreira also recently reported on his blog that another new channel for the LSM 4–6 black market called M-Net Movies Zone is also on the cards.
A quick search for the rumoured two channels revealed that the DStv Media Sales website lists them as part of its portfolio, using the logos shown in the image above.
