Sentech blocks SABC in Zim: report

Sentech has scrambled SABC’s television channels in Zimbabwe, Business Day reported on Wednesday.

The switching-off of the three SABC free-to-air channels meant Zimbabweans now could only view state broadcaster, the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the paper reported.

According to the report, the High Court in Johannesburg had ordered signal carrier Sentech to encrypt the signal last year.

This was after eTV’s subsidiary eBotswana requested the same court to scramble the signal in 2011, to curb growing broadcast piracy in the region.

Business Day said Sentech could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
