MultiChoice has launched a new promotion, offering consumers a DStv HD PVR and a 3.5-inch Walka for R1,399.
This promotion is available at MultiChoice agencies and branches, Dion Wired, Hi-Fi Corp, House and Home, Pick n Pay Hyper, and Makro.
This promotion excludes installation, and does not include the R70 monthly PVR access fee. DStv mobile access is free to DStv Premium subscribers.
This promotion may be a way for MultiChoice to up-sell its existing DStv subscribers.
Naspers recently revealed that MultiChoice has grown its DStv subscriber base by 1,128,000 subscribers over the last year.
New DStv Compact subscribers accounted for 38% of growth, while the DStv PVR base increased 26% year on year to 956,000 subscribers.
MultiChoice hence has the opportunity to increase revenue if they can convince DStv Compact users to upgrade to DStv Premium, which has the benefit of many HD channels and free DStv mobile services.
DStv competitor TopTV currently does not have a PVR offering, and also does not have HD channels. The company’s standard decoder and installation price is around R400.
The DStv HD PVR and Walka promotion runs from 11 July to 21 July 2013.
