Free 1GB data to all Vodacom subscribers
Vodacom is giving all of its subscribers 1GB of free data to use on Sunday as part of the company’s twentieth birthday celebrations.
“On Sunday, we’re giving all Vodacom customers 1GB of free data to use for the day. No strings attached, just a huge thank-you for being with us over the last 20 years,” said Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub.
Vodacom launched its first commercial mobile services on 1 June 1994, with an initial 36,000 active customers on the network.
It was initially estimated that the market could potentially grow to 250,000 subscribers. However, by the end of 1995 this was already surpassed, with 400,000 cellphones in use in the country.
Over the last 20 years Vodacom grew its subscriber base to 33 million, and in celebration of its success the company is giving each of these subscribers 1GB of free data to use on Sunday 11 May 2014.
It should be noted that this free data is only available until 23:59 on 11 May 2014. Vodacom subscribers can check their data balance by dialling *111*600#.
Good news for Vodacom customers is that there is more to come. “We’re planning a year of celebrations and have new firsts lined up throughout the year,” said Joosub.
