Top mobile data city in SA by usage
Johannesburg is by far the biggest consumer of mobile data in South Africa, Vodacom’s data usage statistics from July 2014 show.
According to Vodacom, mobile users in Johannesburg burnt through over a petabyte (1 million gigabytes) of data during July, making up 20% of South Africa’s mobile data consumption.
On Vodacom’s network, Pretoria came in second (7.7%), Cape Town third (7.4%), and Durban fourth (4.8%).
Cell C’s statistics also rank Johannesburg as the city with the highest data consumption in the country, but the Pretoria municipal area (City of Tshwane) is listed fourth — behind Cape Town and Durban’s municipal areas.
The top 5 municipalities in terms of Cell C data consumption were (in order): City of Johannesburg, City of Cape Town, eThekwini (Durban), City of Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.
