8ta’s first contract offerings: Aggressive pricing

Telkom launched its much anticipated mobile operator 8ta last month, promising to disrupt the local mobile market with aggressive pricing and easy-to-understand offerings.

At launch 8ta only offered prepaid services – one voice offering and one data service.  At the time 8ta promised customers 2 pre-paid, 4 post-paid and 3 data offerings, and the first post-paid services have now emerged.

8ta started promoting the following contract offerings in the media:

R90 per month over 24 months with the following included

  1. Samsung Galaxy 550 phone
  2. 90 inclusive minutes to all 8ta and national landlines
  3. 15 minutes to other mobile phones and local networks
  4. 25MB of monthly data
  5. Free SIM and connection

R130 per month over 24 months with the following included

  1. Nokia E5 and Nokia 5030 phones
  2. 130 inclusive minutes to all 8ta and national landlines
  3. 30 minutes to other mobile phones and local networks
  4. 25MB of monthly data
  5. Free SIM and connection
  6. Free 8ta starter pack and R10 8ta airtime voucher

R230 per month over 24 months with the following included

  1. Motorola FLIPOUT and Samsung Champ phones
  2. 230 inclusive minutes to all 8ta and national landlines
  3. 60 minutes to other mobile phones and local networks
  4. 25MB of monthly data
  5. Free SIM and connection
  6. Free 8ta starter pack and R100 8ta airtime voucher

R500 per month over 24 months with the following included

  1. Nokia N8 and Nokia 2710n phones
  2. 500 inclusive minutes to all 8ta and national landlines
  3. 200 minutes to other mobile phones and local networks
  4. 50MB of monthly data
  5. Free SIM and connection
  6. Free 8ta starter pack and R50 8ta airtime voucher

All contract subscribers will – like their prepaid counterparts – get 50 free daily SMSs after sending 5 SMSs each day.

To reward early adopters 8ta is further offering the first 100,000 8ta contract subscribers the option to nominate a Telkom landline number to which they can make unlimited free calls for two years.
