Telkom FreeMe vs data-only bundle weirdness
Telkom recently launched its FreeMe packages, which are available as contract deals or as bundles for prepaid subscribers.
The packages allow you to choose how much data you want, and include free data for certain instant messaging services, free calls to Telkom numbers, and 10GB of free Wi-Fi data.
Currently, the free IM data has a fair use limit of 2GB and applies to WhatsApp, BBM, and Viber.
Calls made to other networks on FreeMe are charged at 69c per minute, billed per second.
When comparing the FreeMe packages to Telkom’s data-only bundles, it becomes evident you should no longer buy the network’s old data bundles – with a few exceptions:
- There are no FreeMe bundles under 500MB.
- FreeMe bundles last 31 days. Most data-only bundles expire at the end of the following month.
