Cell C to shake up data prices

Cell C will launch aggressively-priced wireless data packages on 1 October, head of marketing Doug Mattheus told MyBroadband.
Mattheus was addressing broadband affordability questions at the launch of Break The Net, Cell C’s online reality show.
South Africans have struggled to participate on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, partly due to a lack of affordable, high-capacity broadband.
Several overseas video creators have been able to turn their hobby of posting videos online into an income stream, with a few growing into video production companies.
To mitigate the high cost of data involved in making online video, Cell C is offering Break The Net app users the opportunity to earn reward points which can be redeemed for 1GB of data.
Mattheus said consumers should look out for big announcements from Cell C on 1 October regarding the price of data.
Cell C plans to offer LTE products that will let people watch and upload video from home more cheaply, he said.
