HTC One in SA: operators respond
Vodacom has revealed that it plans to offer the recently announced HTC One “within the next few months”, while Virgin Mobile and Cell C said that they aren’t able to confirm any details at this stage.
Interestingly, Vodacom and Cell C are mentioned among the list of 185 operators HTC said would carry its new flagship Android device.
It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that operators may express a strong interest in carrying a device but reserve the right to put it through testing before making a commitment to acquire stock, or “ranging” it.
Cell C’s unwillingness to disclose details, even though HTC names them as a carrier that will offer the device, could therefore mean that the operator has yet to test the device on its network.
As far as pricing is concerned, Vodacom said “it’s too early to confirm pricing information at this stage.”
A Virgin Mobile spokesperson explained that they are still working with HTC and so can’t confirm ranging and price to customers right now.
8ta and MTN were also asked whether they would offer the HTC One, but did not respond by the time of publication.
