Don’t make us increase prices: Vodacom
Vodacom has said that Cell C’s complaint with the Competition Commission appears to argue that the prices for on-network calls on Vodacom must be increased.
“It’s hard to argue that increasing prices would be a benefit to consumers,” a Vodacom spokesperson told MyBroadband.
This comes after Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig announced at the 2013 MyBroadband conference on Wednesday, 9 October 2013 that they had lodged a complaint with the Competition Commission against dominant mobile operators, Vodacom and MTN.
Speaking at the 2013 MyBroadband Conference, Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig said that Vodacom and MTN are abusing their dominant market positions with far lower on-net call rates.
Knott-Craig vowed to fight against the unfair practices and poor policies in the country’s telecoms space.
In their statement, Vodacom concurred with MTN SA boss Zunaid Bulbulia who told conference attendees that lower on-network prices are a standard industry practice which even Cell C implements on its network.
“It’s a standard practice worldwide for companies to offer their customers lower priced calls when those calls are to other people on the same network,” Vodacom said.
