Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 launch clarified

Korean electronics giant Samsung announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 on Monday (6 August 2012), but information on the exact availability date of the device is a bit confused at the moment.

A number of publications, including Cnet, are quoting a press release that states that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is available in Korea, Germany, the US, and the UK. Other countries will follow starting this month, according to this press release.

Other reports state that the device is set to go on sale in the US later this month, with other countries to follow.

Asked if they could confirm information about the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 supplied to MyBroadband earlier this year, Samsung provided the following statement:

Samsung, as a company, is a leading, innovative technology provider and will always take advantage of this by delivering products to market that enable a Smarter Lifestyle and simpler living. Any upcoming product launches will be in line with this thinking and will be announced when relevant. As announced today the GALAXY Note 10.1 will be commercially available on August 16th in the US. Besides US market, the GALAXY Note 10.1 will be widely available in the global market starting from August – where local timings will be communicated where relevant. As such, we are unable to confirm an RRP at this stage.

Based on this official comment from Samsung, it would appear as though the press release that is being quoted from is inaccurate, and the device is in fact not available.

Samsung SA also didn’t reveal any information about the local launch of the device, despite saying in April 2012 that they expect the Note 10.1 to launch in SA during Q2 2012 at a price of around R8,849.

Such early estimated prices and launch windows often change, but Samsung’s caution about revealing any information pertaining to the South African launch of the Note 10.1 is noteworthy.
