Samsung TV Evolution Kit availability announced
Samsung announced during a press conference at CES 2013 in Las Vegas that the upgrade kits for its previous generation of high-end TVs would start shipping in the US during March 2013.
Pricing will be announced closer to launch, Samsung said.
These “Evolution Kits” bypass the existing processors and memory installed in the TVs, Samsung explained, upgrading the core hardware of the TV.
The Korean electronics giant explained that Evolution Kits have the following features:
- High-end Samsung ES-series TVs from 2012 have a slot for an Evolution Kit;
- Future high-end Samsung TVs will also be upgradeable by Evolution Kit;
- Supported TVs can expect around 4 years worth of ongoing upgrades via Evolution Kits;
- The central processor (CPU), memory (RAM), and graphics processor (GPU) are upgraded by the 2012–2013 Evolution Kit;
- 2012 Samsung TVs also get access the new Smart Hub that ships with 2013 TVs.
