Sony SmartWatch 2 announced
After much teasing that it would be introducing a new “smartwatch” ahead of Mobile Asia Expo today (25 June 2013), Sony has unveiled the SmartWatch 2 which it claims is the first water-resistant smartwatch featuring Near Field Communications (NFC).
In the press statement announcing the SmartWatch 2, Sony pitches the device as “a second screen for your Android smartphone” that serves as a multi-function watch, notifier, Android app interface, and phone remote control.
The Sony SmartWatch 2 is set to feature a 1.6-inch 220×176 display with the following dimensions: 41.1mm x 41.1mm x 9mm.
It also complies with the IP57 water-resistance specification, charges through micro USB, and has swappable wristbands.
The watch will work with any smartphone running Android 4.0 and later, Sony’s press release said.
Sony said that the SmartWatch 2 will be available worldwide from September 2013.
