ISP, operator website battle
An ISP’s website has become an integral part of the company’s overall value proposition, offering self-service portals, online shops, news and other valuable services to their subscribers.
An ISP’s website has also become a powerful tool for customer acquisition, which means website popularity has become an important business metric.
To drive traffic to a commercial website is not easy. Many ISPs use a combination of online advertising, search engine optimisation and valuable content offers and services to attract visitors.
This raises the question on which ISP websites are reigning supreme when it comes to popularity.
Only MWEB is registered with the IAB and runs Effective Measure code, which means that other (less reliable) tools must be used to compare traffic to these websites.
Two popular tools are Google Trends and Alexa. Here are the results for some of the top ISP websites.
Google Trends
Google Trends is a service offered by Google to compare the popularity of different search terms.
The following graphs shows the search volumes and interest in local ADSL ISPs and operators over the last few years.
Alexa
Alexa provides a rough estimate of website popularity in the country based on panel data. It is not as accurate as Effective Measure or Google Analytics, but in the absence of this data, it is a fair resource to use.
The following graphs show the website traffic to the various websites based on Alexa’s statistics.
