Keylogger found in HP laptop drivers
A security researcher has discovered a keylogger which ships installed on certain HP laptops.
The keylogger is embedded in the SynTP.sys file, which is a component of the Synaptics touchpad driver in HP laptops.
Over 460 HP notebooks are affected by the vulnerability, which allows hackers to log a user’s keystrokes by changing a registry value.
HP has acknowledged the issue and released a patch to fix the vulnerability.
“A party would need administrative privileges in order to take advantage of the vulnerability. Neither Synaptics nor HP has access to customer data as a result of this issue,” said HP.
Affected hardware can be found on the HP support page.
