700,000 Android devices activated every day

Google vice president and chief of Android, Andy Rubin, has announced that more than 700,000 Android devices are being activated each day, continuing the trend of strong growth in 2011.

In a post on Google+ Rubin noted that, “There are now over 700,000 Android devices activated every day.”

He clarified his original message with another post later in the day, saying, “for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and ‘activations’ means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.”

The latest update comes just a single month after Google announced that 550,000 devices were being activated each day. Previous announcements were made in June (500,000) and May (400,000) this year.

There are now over 200 million active Android devices globally.
