Xbox 360 failure rate decreases drastically

Kind of funny reading this writeup on the xbox's failure rate... Last week I had an argument with a guy who claimed that the xbox is a piece of crap hardware and that it's just a matter of time before it gives in...

I told him that mine has been running going on 2 years without so much as a hiccup... should have touched wood or something cause on Saturday, about an hour after procuring Wolfenstein (been waiting for this title very long) my console started to hang up at the "press start" screen of the game.... then next moment... 3 red flashing lights around the power button.

I contacted Microsoft and they gave me a local number where a friendly lady named Michelle assisted me and promptly sent me the forms I need to fill out to have my unit replaced. This was about an hour ago, so I'll "blog" my experience in the near future... read on xbox gaming that the previous dudes "Mi Digital" really made everyone very angry... So hopefully these new guys are the Shiznitz.

By the way... I think I "had" a falcon console as it had an HDMI port.... is tis a jasper or am I being daft?

Peace,

Kirplunk (guy without an Xbox at this stage):(

dude, i feel for you man, and the guys at powercare are just as able as midigital, if you get hassles let me know, coz i got all the right email addresses for the root to follow if you get stuck. so here's hoping you don't.. but if lemme know

sounds like you have a falcon, hard to say, I also had a falcon, they gave me a zepher, I went mal and i got a falcon again, spoke to them again seems they gonna now give all what they had to ensure no more angry peeps :P

oh bugger, cause my zepher needs to be sent in

Thanks PP... I just hope I get it all resolved as I am not going to buy another xbox at this stage of the console's life span. And I still have like 3 paid for unplayd titles... It will be a major waste.

Luckily my ps3 is still running smoothly and without problems. :D

Falcon failures?
I heard the legend but dismissed it as a rarity.
Wish i could trade mine for a Jasper before it buggers up.
Im so paranoid im only playing pc until i get the games i really wanna play.

It's bad hey...? As if they should sell the consoles with Expiry dates...lol

And Yep... I think it's a falcon... has an HDMI port at the back, and it's an arcade console.

dude, i had two falcons die on me :P ( i am a hard gamer, machine rarely goes off)

Flogging my xbox today!
I have used it like a w**** for the last 18months and im about to dodge a bullet.
Dont get me wrong, i freaking love xbox but i purchased it secondhand and my wife wants to do yoga[guess what she wants]

Forgot to mension,i managed to register the xbox for the RROD warranty.
The previous owner never bothered.
If i do not have the slip is it still under warranty?

if u don't have proof of purchase, u can still swap out but they gonna charge you, your warranty will then be linked to your mfr date on the console, 3yrs for e74 and RROD...

so don't let them charge you if u got falcon or better, rather let maestro_za fix it for ya

They did not ask me to register the console. But I have proof of purchase.
What happens when you get a new console? Does the 3 year RROD guarantee start over again?

no u get the balance of the warranty of your original console...

XBOX 360 is HUGE fail..... not sales wise but the way it was produced.i have an xbox...im not a PS3 fanboy in here to diss Microsoft or anything but the amount of research ive done on the red rings of death,2 red rings of doom, overheating is crazy.you get Youtube vids with 10 000 000 hits on rrod...i mean that tells you how many ppl are watching them asking themselves 'WHY'.i bought 2 xboxs for the price of one and the one rrod - i did tons of research and fixed it with the thermal paste etc.
and of course its gonna drastically drop with the jasper chipset - why the heck would they release something without testing it properly. thats like anything thats failed before...they make DAMN sure the same doesnt happen with the update.

sorry for the rant but its annoying when ppl defend microsoft - original xbox 360 was a hardware failure of note.like i said i love my xbox and im loving GTA4 and Fallout 3 etc but man oh man....what a royal f#$ck up by MS :)

i agree matt, i feel that not enough testing was done, also when the problem was found the should've recalled the crap and given all new consoles instead of giving us patched up ole RROD prones

Same can be said for PS3 Blu-ray failures. Give all consumers a brand new replacement ... nope not going to happen.

What also can be said is the lack of care people have for their consoles. Dust bunnies the size of McFeast burgers is what I often find when I disassemble a 360/PS3.

Where do people place their consoles ... inside a vacuum cleaner?

Yes, the hardware failures are unacceptable but not worrying about ventilation and other common sense practices is no good either ...

dude, my xbox360, i look after my baby better than what the queen's arse is looked after . Cleaned area, daily thanx to da B&D , well ventilated, in my lounge which has got aircon ... so yeah some don't look after their stuff but I do and did, so my issue was system failure due to system, i got 2 xbox360's and within 1 year they both died.

one was a zephyr other a falcon, they both got da RROD and croaked ... and then the fun started, the failures would not of been a problem if the warranty process was much better (has gotten better, but was hell!!)

lol maestro my PS2 used to be stored in a closet with little ventilation...still alive.
Yes some ppl are silly to have the xbox up against a wall in a shelve with no ventilation bt in many many many cases like PixelPusha the xbox was looked after real well but still rrod.this has nothing to do with the gamers but a huge stuff up .... and surely when they do testing they think about something as simple as ventilation and what will happen to the xbox if it has no air circulation.i will never stand up for Microsoft and thier huge mess up of a console...but i will still play it.
