I am trying to share my 3g connection for other machines to use as well. I have a local area connection setup...problem is if I set the connection to obtain an ip address automatically, I get the error message that there is limited or no connectivity. I can't setup an IP, as (as I understand) that 3g assigns a new ip address with each connection, therefore I don't know what to set the default gateway as...any suggestions

agentpt, sorry for the delay in responding. Only got into the office now....

I'll have to check on how to do it or ask one of our IT guys. It is a standard XP feature where you create a shared dial-up access point on your PC. Have done it before for normal dial-up, a while ago. Will be the same for 3G which is just another dial-up connection as fat as Windows is concerned.

IP properties like default gateway, DNS, etc. should be assigned automatically. So every time you get a new set of parameters it should work. Although, looking at ic's tag-line, I'm reluctant to say 'it should just work'....

Will get back to you on the specifics on a PM.

heh "it shouldn't happen" is one of the things I hate hearing when I have problems.

Anyway ic is right, just disable to feature that warns you about limited or no connectivity in the properties of your 3G link (Windows XP that is)

ICS should work *waits to get shot by ic* You need to configure your 3G to 192.168.0.1 and let the other machines obtain addreses automatically.

Is it my imagination or is there a smell of fear in the air...or perhaps I need a shower :D

Ok, so I had a bit of a rant session in the iBurst forum, but I don't think I was that harsh, was I? - just want answers from WBS

lol, well I am saving my rant for a little trip to their offices, perhaps later today (tuesday that is) ;)

<Crash smacks ic and gets the train back on the rails. .... :p>

agentpt.... try this.

Set all you other pc's to obtain ip automatically. Then Enable ICS on your laptop (i assume). You get an ip of 192.168.0.1.

Now goto the other Pc's and give them a static ip in the same range.
So pc1 - 192.168.0.2
So pc2 - 192.168.0.3

And set their Default Gateway to 192.168.0.1
Sometimes you get DNS issues, so you may need to manually enter the DNS servers on pc1, pc2.

Best way to do this is to do an ipconfig from your laptop, look under your 3dcard connection (No clue what it called?) and read off the DNS server settings, then plonk them into your pc1 ,pc2.

I do this for iBurst, Sentech etc.

I find the DHCP stuff in windows xp is temperamental as hell. Reboot the ICS box... bash the other pc's with a stick, go have a beer and then it works.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.. :p I managed after all the "it should &%$£"* work" frustrations, to find a cool way to connect via bluetooth. Didn't setup static IP's but used the "automatic assign route with a neat piece of advice Hope it helps anyone with the same issues...http://www.wifizard.com/tutorialsXP/gbt-solution/index-gbt-solution-6.htm Thanks again...Oh yes CRASH didn't need the stick, but the beer helped a lot too..I recommend to shoot it down with a few tequilas, it seems to improve the 3g connection speed to 15MBPS
