Hi

I recently had telkom 105wr get hit by lighting, blowing the hub, anyway that router was able to dail a PPPOE connection on the router, aswell as dail a connection on the machine and keep both connecitons alive with out dropping the routers connection..

I would like to know if the D-link DSL-2760U would support bridge mode to my understanding that, the router dails a pppoe connection and my machine dails a pppoe connection with out dropping the routers connection..

thanks

Hi & welcome to the forums.

All the D-Link modems support bridge & half-bridge (PPPoE Relaying/Passthrough) mode.

You'll just have to enable the half-bridge mode by enabling bridging the option under the PPPoE connection though.

Forgive my reluctance, just need to be 100% sure as I have netgear dgn2200 which doesnt support bridge mode at all..and im going to return to for an exchange for the dlink mentioned above , google doesnt help

thanks

This setup works with DGN2000, never tried it with DGN2200. You can test it though:

1. Access the web-user interface of the modem by typing http://192.168.0.1 in the address field.
2. When prompted, enter “admin” for the username and “password” for the password (if you haven't changed yet the password for the interface).
3. Once logged in change the address URL in the address bar from:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=start.htm
to:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm
4. This opens a hidden configuration page on router. Select 'Modem (Modem only)' and click Apply. This will convert the router into a simple ADSL mode. Router (Modem + Router) sets the device to modem-router mode.
5. After setting up the modem to Bridge mode, Basic Settings option is gone under Setup tab. You could still configure the ADSL settings though.
6. You can now connect the DGN2200 to your router or computer and setup for a PPPoE connection.

Does this help ya?

yeah googled for many hours on how figure out to bridge mode on the DGN2200 but to no avail tried link earlier but just gave me 404, so take it doesnt work... would expect this router to atleast have a bridge mode... sigh...

indeed, sorry dude... It may have been possible with some previous firmware version.

Neet & saixbot: the DGN2000 had bridge mode, but not the DGN2200!

If you already have an existing WiFi AP & switch, then you can just go and buy a cheap (less than R200) D-Link DSL-2500U ADSL modem (which has only 1 LAN port).

I'm 99.9% sure that ALL the D-Link DSL-xxxxU modems support bridge & half-bridge modes, because I haven't come across one that didn't support both modes yet.

Alright I have got the dlink-2760u, i want to be able to put it in half-brige, how would i go about doing that..? I've added 2 DSL ATM Interface Configurations and 2 WAN One on ATM1 bridge with VCI @ 8 and VPI @ 38
the pppoe is 8 and 35..

EDIT: Nevermind got it working :D
If anyone is interested check image blow

I've also started off by adding both a PPPoE and Bridge interface on the D-Link routers to get it in half-bridge mode, and it did work.

The correct way to do it is to add only a PPPoE interface and then to enable the Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports option.

Any way you can guide me though this Pada? My DSL-2760U is set up with one connection connecting the router to my ISP ADSL account but I would like to be able to dial another ADSL account from my PC, for when I'd like to try a different ISP...

d7e7r7:
Edit your existing PPPoE connection on the D-Link modem and enable the 'Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN & Local Ports' option, which is the half-bridge option.
Once you've enabled that, save & reboot the modem for good measure.

I'm pretty sure you can find this in the manual if the information I gave above isn't enough.

When I click edit on the "Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup" page, next to my current PPPOE connection, it shows:
Code:
Select a layer 2 interface for this service

Note: For ATM interface, the descriptor string is (portId_vpi_vci)
For PTM interface, the descriptor string is (portId_high_low)
Where portId=0 --> DSL Latency PATH0
portId=1 --> DSL Latency PATH1
portId=4 --> DSL Latency PATH0&1
low =0 --> Low PTM Priority not set
low =1 --> Low PTM Priority set
high =0 --> High PTM Priority not set
high =1 --> High PTM Priority set
and there's a drop down menu with nothing in it, so clicking "next" does nothing, clicking "back" goes back to the "Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup" page...

Maybe will have to remove the connection and make it from scratch tomorrow...

Here:
Go to Advanced Setup -> WAN
Click Edit button next to the active PPPoE interface that has a Port/Vpi/Vci of 0/8/35
Click Next button, because you want to keep the Port/VPI/VCI settings as is
Click Next button, because you want to keep the Connection Type as PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
Now select the Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports option, and click Next button
Click the Next button and then the Save button
Now press the Save/Reboot button ;D

^^ This was based on my parent's D-Link DSL-2500U modem's web interface, so it might not be exactly the same on yours.

I would also like to set this up - 2 adsl accounts on one router - using the above settings.

How will I know which isp account is being used so as to manage my cap on each ISP account.

qace: the D-Link ADSL modems doesn't allow you to add 2 PPPoE connections via the web interface - or at least not the ones that I configured.

You can always set your ADSL modem in bridge/half-bridge mode and then simply dial the account that you want to use from your PC.
In half-bridge mode, your PC will use the account that is configured on your ADSL modem, UNLESS you dial another PPPoE connection from your PC.

In bridge mode, your PC will only have Internet access once you've dialed a PPPoE connection from your PC.

Hmm.

What about the Layer2 Interface sub-menu?

Perhaps you should go through the user manual and look for that Bridge PPPoE Frames option. If the manual uses the same menu structure as I described, then I would suggest that you contact D-Link to get a firmware update.
