HSDPA speeds on Cell C?? How did this happen

So I just popped my virgin sim today, so I decided to do a speed test and
got 132kb/s and 30kb/s upload.

MY SPEED TEST

So like always I click on my results to see how Im to others
( because all cell c ppls use the same ip) and like always the average is around 100kb/s so on,but on the 10/04/2009 I found this:

(THE FOLLOWING IS NOT MY TEST BUT WAS FOUND TOGETHER WITH THE REST OF CELL C SPEED TESTS DONE BUT OTHERS)

2993 kb/s
79 kb/s
ping 1070

That is 2.99mb/s and 0.08 mb/s

"Viewing Results For IP Address
41.157.12.3
CELL C (PTY) LTD"

That is HSDPA Speeds!

WTF DUDE!!! I think you may have downloaded a faulty version of Sppedtest. My Virgin still goes straight to EDGE not 3G.

DUDE!! That second speed test ISINT MINE!! i just saw it together with the rest of Cell C results(EVERYBODY)! The first test is mine with the edge results!SPEEDTEST 101 DUDE! Speedtest 101

And yeah only telkom, voda and mtn pick up as umts....

But you won't have access to it. It's most likely a trial or a speedtest error.

I saw errors where they said 50Mbps in SA, it's somewhere on the forum.

Maybe cable:D i dnt know, but that speed is HSDPA,and cell c did do tests on WiMAX before so not that they are far behind in testing stuff:rolleyes:vs what they have.If I phone and ask they might just say their not sure.

Could be a error, only someone inside Cell C could help

(Shouldn't have put that name up for the thread:rolleyes:)

doubtfull they will provide 3G , nevertheless HSDPA :)

Try a few other speed tests Superman89.

Try the Iburst or Gamco speed test on Myadsl. (Then post those results plz) . Just to make sure that the one test wasn't a fluke :>

If u asking me to do a speedtest,im going get edge speeds....lmao thats what I pick up when I put a cell c/virgin sim in my phone...nothing but edge the last time I checked

I only hope people are NOT thinking the second time is mine!..because its not!,and yeah as I said if they can test WiMAX whats so hard to believe they testing Hsdpa..

Well CellC use to bum off Vodacom network...and before I could connect to vodacom 3G with my virgin mobile phone...maybe its the same thing...

U connected to Vodacom's 3G and there's no restrictions coz cellC still bums off the Vodacom network where there's no coverage

That would be my guess, it was probably someone roaming on Vodacom 3G.

I also was thinking in those lines, thou even if you manage to roam and get 3G..enough time to do a speed test?..Cell C / Virgin normaly kicks off the Vodacom 3G network after couple minutes. How on earth would someone stay connected that long:confused:

I'm not sure, I stay away from Cell C/Virgin but it seems more likely someone managed to roam on Voda HSDPA than that Cell C secretly rolled out a 3G network. Occam's Razor. ;)
