I had the cabinet custom made according to my design. I picked it up on Saturday.

Note that when designing the cabinet, I made sure that it was as toddler friendly as can be. Notice the locks on the doors and drawer so that little hands cannot fiddle with all the knobs. Its depth also plays a small part so that my son cannot touch the TV and with me having the cabinet for a few days, I can say with confidence that it has worked. Hopefully when he is big enough to reach the remotes at the far back of the cabinet, he wouldn't be throwing them on the floor or pressing random buttons - well, I hope not. :)

If you're interested in the design, let me know and I'll post the Google Sketchup file and PowerPoint presso as well.

Now the gear

Media Player: Mede8er MED500X f/w 2.0.2
STB: DSTV DSD-1100
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V795a. 10 years old and still does the job well.
TV: Samsung PS50B550 50" Plasma TV
DVD Player: LG DVD Player
Speakers - Front: Mission 702e floorstanding
Speakers - Center: Jamo (cannot recall the model nr)
Speakers - Rear: Celestion wall mountable speakers (not wall mounted yet)
Subwoofer: Jamo (cannot recall the model nr)

I hope to add a HD-PVR soon, definately before the Soccer World Cup, then a Harmony One remote, and of course, an entertainment system isn't complete without a PS3 and Nintendo Wii, so hopefully I can complete it soon.

Currently I am putting together a NAS from my old P4 PC, so that I can serve up all my content from there to the Mede8er. That will go in on the right.

And yes, I can see the reflections in the TV. :)

nice setup ipodmusicman... I have added a Wii to my collection of goodies sinc my post, and will soon be getting rid of the mVix PVR, getting pointless playing around with media players, This time I will be putting in a HTPC, no more crap about media formats / codec issues. Windows 7 Media Center is the way to go!

Very neat setup there. That amp and speakers must kick in what looks like a relatively small room...

@IRG An HTPC is the way to go indeed - especially with apps like XMBC and Boxee really bringing your home theatre to life with awesome eye candy UI. Hope to get there one day.

@sandmanm34 the room isn't huge, but leads to the kitchen and dining room behind the couch reflection in the TV, but it has a double volume ceiling which makes for great room acustics, especially with the volume turned up to a kick ass blockbuster movie. :)

@Wasp_21 Yeah, I am in despirate need to get a Harmony One - that is the one that I want. Currently, my wife doesn't have a clue how to get to the Mede8er since first you need to put the TV source to HDMI (for video), the receiver to CD (optical audio in) and navigate the Mede8er - all requiring 3 seporate remotes! Each time we are finished watching content using the Mede8er, I switch the sources back to DSTV on the appropriate devices so that things just work when my wife uses the TV.

LOL, yeah i have the same problem. I don't have the Mede8er yet, so eveything is through the PC, so if i need a laugh i ask my wife to put on a movie, wait a few minutes, and then she strips her moer! Real entertainment!

@Wasp_21 Yep, I can def say that my wife isn't THX certified. :) But I'm sure that once I get a universal remote, she'll have no probs navigating the system.

my HT Setup

Lets post some pictures of our Home Theatre setups. Also include what equipment you are running.

I have a Samsung PS42B430 plasma, Sony HT-DDW5000 & a Xbox 360.

http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/12908/ppuser/65028

Its funny how I spent over 15k on HT equipment over the last few months and still my stuff is rated as budget equipment.

Only problems I have with my setup is the plasma's little connectivity options. But for the price I paid its great.

hehehhe. i have the exact same setup as you. even the plasma stand is the same
