Hi,

I recently replaced my Mega-100WR ADSL router with a D-Link. The only problem is that the D-Link I've got doesn't have a wireless access point, so I'm wondering - is it possible to set up the old Mega-100WR as an access point only, and set its gateway to the D-Link router?

Thus not using its ADSL/modem component at all.

That's good news, I figured it might be possible. Any chance you can elaborate on "how", though? :P

cable Mega to D-link,
assing DHCP from dlink from .2 - .50 (for eg),
assign dhcp from Mega through AP from .51 - .75 (for eg) with the Dlink as the default gateway.
should work

Do you delete all WAN connections from the Mega, or must one be set up?
And where do you set the gateway IP on the Mega. There's more than one place.

To be honest, i dont even know what the interface looks like, from what i can logically work out
you would not need the wan interface, and you would only set the default gateway on the wireless AP DHCP server.

IE, I am trying to achieve that the wireless network is on the same subnet/network as the Dlink, therefore the default gateway will be the dlink

does this make sense?

Yeah it does, thanks.
Just trying to apply that to the horrible web interface :P

I did this with my Mega 100wr2 and an older Marconny, in order to extend my wireless range. This has been some years ago thou, but it seems similar to what tau1z has suggested.

to be honest, should be straight forward, on the mega activate the wireless AP (no security in the beginning) and assign a dhcp range as suggested above, connect the mega to the dlink and you should b done.

To test, connect cable to mega and laptop and ping the Dlink, then connect laptop to wireless and ping dlink. Once that is done you know ur network is up.

For some reason I think I also changed the IP range? Would that make sense? I know I plugged out out my default router and plugged in my marconni and did the setting and then plugged in the default and then connected the Marconni.

I don't think my 2nd router was hard wired in the end though? i connected wireless to router and then acted as a extender for the wireless signal to the rest of the house.

I think I should stop posting here. I'm confusing myself and probably the OP as well.:p

:) lol,
his Dlink has no wireless, hence the adding of the Mega to the network, to create a wireless AP..

Thanks for the info guys. Will look into it.
Speaking of.. anyone ever experience any issues with the D-Link 2500u? Sometimes the web interface would turn sluggish as hell, and during these periods pings to the router would be anything between 5 and 250ms.

Did you get it to work?

Did you ever get the Mega to work as an access point? We are looking much further into this and wondering if it worked for you. So did it?

Hi There,
If you do what syntax suggest you should be fine. You don't need the WAN stuff at all.

Do remember though to make sure you have a password on your wireless to make it secure.

Regards
