Following up on the news article "Broadband wars will threaten DSTV Pay TV" (www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?222894-Broadband-wars-will-threaten-DSTV-Pay-TV) I'd like to know where we can watch free streaming TV online.

1. Hulu (www.hulu.com) - you need to watch it through a VPN service like Hide My Ass (www.hidemyass.com/vpn). I found it to buffer a lot.
2. Tvgorge (www.tvgorge.com) - recently been shut down
3. YouTube (www.youtube.com) - not really what I have in mind but I believe you can watch the IPL live.

Please add to the list ...

You don't need a 8mbit line to watch DSTV quality (fairly averige quality at 2 to 5 mbit downlink using the old mpeg2 codec). Using the mpeg4 codec you should be fine on a 1mbit line. The problem in South Africa is - poor connection/line quality! If the 8mbit line works as promised, you should be able to watch the equivalent of DSTV HiDef (720p). Internet TV is going to takeoff in the next few years - BIG TIME ! And yes, I am talking about South Africa. Ofcourse, you need a cheap, uncapped AND unshaped account before you even think about proper internet tv.

Tonight I tried many of the above suggestions and in most cases I got buffering, spoiling the experience. My line synchs at 3 Mbps and I am using an Axxess Uncapped Express+ package.

The transmission breaks up for about 10 secs every 2 to 5 mins. A little frustrating though but still better than watching live SCORES! Im not on uncapped. 4mbps ADSL afrihost. Oh and the transmissioin is from FOX sports 3 HD

For LEGAL TV shows and other video downloads try, www.getmiro.com

Great software. I just hope and wait for them to broaden the choice of channels and shows.

Honestly, Youtube is pretty good.

If you want to filter out actual episodes from trailers and other rubbish, try adding keywords like "part 1" or "episode" after the show's name when you search.

I don't know how much of it is legal, but that's Google's problem.
