Samsung Galaxy S delayed in South Africa

I'm so glad my current contract expires in January 2011. By then there should be quite a selection of Android phones available.

Well - if it were an HTC phone, they'd bring a few into the country, then claim out of stock....

who named that CPU? a ****ing alien?

I wish we could upvote posts in the forum. This made me laugh :-). Thanks!

Looks like a 2 year old iPhone 3G

You're not that far off, I think. The Galaxy S runs Android skinned to look and animate like an iPhone. The menu scrolls sideways like an iPhone instead of vertically like most other Android phones and the app icons look like iPhone icons.

So basically the Galaxy S is a cheaper, lighter iPhone with a bigger screen. And with the iPhone 4's camera.

And more customization power ;)
Some lucky person at my event next Saturday is going to win one :) ... big ups to Samsung for the Sponsorship ;)

glad my contract is up waiting for this phone a long time. Hope it comes on a good contract with lotsa data

It certainly is no iPhone. Despite the Samsung interface, Android is very different :)
I don't know why Samsung chose to mimic the iPhone in some way, I would have preferred a different look. Can't wait for mine though, should arrive today from the UK :)

True, it is muuuuuuccccchhh better than any iPhone :-). After having it for a few days I am actually very happy that Samsung copied a bit of the interface and look from the iPhone. I previously always had a problem with androids because I found them dead ugly. Look at the Moto Droids or the Legend and Desire, they all do not look very appealing, sure they are powerful, but just not appealing. The same goes for the Sense interface in my opinion. And this is what the iPhone always got right, it looks stunning, both interface and phone. And so does the Galaxy S. Apple has a history of copying things from other manufacturers so don't go and blame Samsung.

So, any idea when exactly in "August 2010" it will be available? My guess would be the 31st...

My guess is not august at all. I am sure it will be delayed until sep, oct or even november. Look how much later phones generally are released here! Or look at the Wave, released in Europe at the end of May, was due to land here during the world cup, then end of world cup, then end of july, now even later. Fact is, noone working in the stores has even heard of these phones and I bet it will be a while still

I called Supercall Cellular today and they have it listed so the lady allowed me to do my upgrade to the Galaxy S. She could not give me a date when the phone will be available / delivered though....

That's interesting. Could she give you a retail price?

Guys, the samsung mobile product and support manager will be at the android event on Saturday... he will have a q and a session and questions can be asked on the live Stream on my site as there is a chat box. He's on at 10:30am.
