Telkom upgraded my line recently but i should rather say downgaded. My line is syncing at 6mb via router but it's so unstable I can't even load pages. All started since the upgrade so I think they should rather get everyone to run 4mb stabel.

What a load of fing bs

You should phone them and ask they can lower the speed, also post your line stats as seen in your router.

Telkom themselves cannot be certain all lines will be 100% so you should be lucky you are getting even above 4MB as alot of people will not even see that anytime soon.

Most of the upto 10MB users here are reporting very good stability.

they may change their packages to

1. 384
2. 512
3. upto 10MB

mine is going at sub 0.5mbs. go go telkom. i called them and they said they would look into it. apparently lots of people who got upgraded have similar issues.

I am open to correction but here goes

1. login to the router "10.0.0.2" in your browser without quotes
2. default login and password should be "admin"
3. under configuration there is an option called "ADSL" you should be able to choose ADSL2+

After that , save settings and wait for your router to reboot and hopefully you won't have any sync issues.

hope this helps :)

I am having the same issue, I was syncing on a 4096kbps line prior to the weekend getting speedtest.net results of 3600kbps consistently, got upgrade to 8128kbps on Saturday night and was getting consistent speeds of 6700kbps. Then on Monday night my line was upgraded from 8128kbps to 10015kbps, this is when it all went pear shaped. Telkom have tried downgrading me to 8, 6, 5, 4 ,and 1024 lines, all of which gave me terrible speeds, my maximum speed was around 400kbps. I logged a call with Telkom and they phoned me back first thing this morning - initially they thought I was the only one with the issue, but the Telkom engineer kindly phoned me back a while later to tell me that it seems there are a lot of people with this issue. At the moment my router is syncing at 8128kbps and this is my speedtest.net result ==>

Ok, just got off the phone with Telkom, they tried to sync my line at all the available speeds and the best result was the sync at 10015kbps - I am managing a Neotel-like speed of 959kbps out of it, this will do until a techie can come out and see what the problem is

Maybe telkom need to upgrade their equipment first and not the lines

this has been a piss poor upgrade process from telkom, with no consistency what-so-ever.
i have been enjoying my 4096 connection for a while now, and was looking forward to getting at least double that... but unfortunately for me it went the other direction.
since sunday i can't get anything above 1400, but my upstream is a consistent 512-580. phoned telkom last night to try sort it out, but looks like i'm close enough to 1024 mark to not warrant an investigation. furthermore, i was told that it might come right, might not... all depends on the my exchanges load?!
i'm exactly 1.5km from the exchange (according to google), so i would expect at worst my old 4096. a mate of mine who lives approx. 500m from the exchange can only sync at +-2800 while my brother who is over 1.5km is enjoying his 10mb.

seems to be totally random and people like me are getting the brunt for telkom's inefficiency.

now Telkom came and spoil it for me just so that others can be happy with there 10mb adsl. total BS. i'm going to fight with them to get it to 4mb again

any " upgrade" that only benefits less than 3% of your userbase... is not really an upgrade at all is it?

I don't know, my line just seems to become more and more stable.

Back at 4mbit - 1st hop got 11-13ms
Original 8mbit - 1st hop got solid 9ms
Now on 10mbit - 1st hop get solid 7-8ms!!

It just gets better and better, though I think if you have a bad line, it is probably showing now while upgrading the lines. Also, I think its not always just to do with distance from the exchange, that is just a simplistic indicator and there might be other problems on your line, interference from other lines at one of the poles or boxes, leaking of water into one of the boxes or something else, some guy might have his microwave right next to your line because his house is built next to the wall of the yard and your line happen to go past his house.

Folks if you've been getting problems since the upgrade, which are problems specific to YOUR line, rather than overall congestion of your EXCHANGE, then I suggest you do the following:

1) Log into your router, and set the modulation to G.DMT (the modulation it was before Telkom installed the new equipment in the exchanges). This can greatly help with stability for some lines!
2) Phone Telkom, and ask that they place you back on 4Mbps profile, or if you have the patience, try 6Mbps first

This sort of problem is inevitable with a DSL speed upgrade, because many people being upgraded are on lines that don't support the higher rates. That doesn't mean you can't easily sort the problem out. The upgrade has good intent - just because your line can't quite handle it doesn't mean the whole thing is a failure - on the contrary, it's very easy to resolve - unless it's an exchange-specific fault.

well my line was ok at 4mb but now it fails. I can't even browse and have to use another internet line. i tried putting my router on ADSL2+ but no syncing and also try forcing it on GDMT but still my line is super unstable. Like I said, I called Telkom to put my line on 4mb and now it's even worse

Was considering phoning telkom to get my line upgraded from 384k to 4mb (10mb if possible), never mind that idea.

Jip. Don't do that. You will end up paying for an unstable connection that is so crap you can't even browse. Maybe we should just wait and see if the my line improves. i already logged a fault with Telkom and they are busy working on the issue. At least I have 2 internet connections although the other one is a 512mbs its better than my useless 4mb connection. At least I can download browse and do all I want.
