Next iteration of HP ProBook series launched

My 800x600 DLP HP projector died suddenly with less than 50hrs of usage. It is a firmware issue or something since the light, fans, ON/OFF switch works but only a blank screen with a fuzzy border is shown. HP agent tried to repair but has no spare parts as the product is EOL. Cost me R14K at Makro a few years ago. HP basically suck, I will never buy an HP product again.

And my HP laptop has been running almost 24/7 for the last year and is still going strong. HP rock. Your own little story of one product failure is not a reason to avoid HP.

Product failed, support was terrible too. HP repair agents are as uncommunicative as they come.

There have been many stories on this forum of HP laptops dying.

As for your laptop - 1 year is nothing. My Panasonic is in its 3rd year and looks brand new - and it's been manhandled across airpors, hotels etc. HP = JUNK.

Been on overseas trips 6 times now, even dropped the laptop once from about 1m. Still going strong. Your opinion is just that, your opinion. If HP was such total trash as you claim they would no longer be in business.

HP is still junk. 1. Failed product with little use. 2. Terrible support - I mean terrible, they won't put you through to the supervisor even. I don't know about corporate support but I've dealt with HP consumer and they are the worst, even worse than DELL SA or Acer SA. I've had an Acer laptop screen die on me after 3 years of turbulent use, however Acer was willing to fix the product and do it quickly. HP is just terrible, both in product quality and customer support. I even had to contact Mike Hurd (ex-CEO) to get an issue resolved. I got a reply from a rep but I dunno if it helped.

Search this forum for people who complain over HP laptop failures and search Google. HP is just another Acer - cheap made in PRC c-ap with worse support.

Weird. My HP 8710w has been seriously abused, and still going strong. My optical drive did go once, but they came to me to replace it the following day.

bla bla bla

Someone somewhere will have a problem with every brand. HP likely gets more bad press since they sell the most, so it looks like they fail more often. Besides, notebooks are generally made from the same components making them all just as reliable as any other brand. Seems you have a bone to pick with HP to me.

Back OT, the notebook just launched looks good, just because it has a serial port. It really is a must have if you are in any sort of tech support role, so many electronics still use serial comms. Dont seem badly priced either.

Just set one up for a customer a few hours ago... Must say, very nice!

I've always been a fan of HP's but lately thought they were going downhill till this. Very Mush! :)

Yeah, they're all going downhill. HP support is sucky, but Dell's support sucks far worse. Dealt with most laptop manufacturers, and HP as I see it is the best of a bad bunch, so I stick to them now, but it's not saying much. No wonder Apple sales are skyrocketing (at least in countries that don't engage in price gouging like SA, *coregroupcoughcough*). PC/laptop OEM's need to get their heads out their asses.
