Can anything be done about DStv show repeats?

I for one have put up with their shyte for long enough, today I shall cancel my subscription and go for a 4Mb uncapped line.

I think people that nag about repeats should wake up. Do they have ANY idea how many movies, series, documentaries etc Multichoice would have to purchase to make sure the schedule is always full of premier TV? Either the subscription would become ridiculously expensive, or the channels would be filled with so much affordable #*@% that you'd never find something good to watch!

if it wasnt for the odd show, news channels and sport id cancel, download most stuff these days

I think overseas though people have so many more channels that the repeats are not as big an issue. When you have DSTV and only few decent channels to watch then the repeats are more noticeable.

I don't see how they can compare to Sky when they have 90 odd channels and Sky has how many (ok granted they have +1 or +2 hour channels but still) I know there is the bandwidth issue to contemplate too. Ah it just sucks .... I only keep DStv for the news in any case!

i second that they have a bigger and better packaged deals and affordable deals so its no an issue i mean there bassic package as over 200 channels and the premier is like 400
whereas dstv compact has only about 10 worthwhile channels the rest is part of free to air so i don't know what the hell they on about they really think the consumer is this stoopid
i think i'm going to do the same gonna get me a 4mb uncapped rather at least i'll get what i pay for instead of a load of @!#$ in my ear

The moment a faster and cheaper NET connection appear in SA, they will all but vanish

On demand services like Netflix and Hulu will rule the future of video entertainment

Watch anything when you want it - no repeats

I really don't see what the problem is with repeats?? The people who sit behind their tv's 24/7 and complain about repeats need to get a life! seriously!
I watch about 6hours of tv a week.. Mostly carte blanch, maybe the movie afterwards, some discovery and a rugby match/f1/super bikes etc..
I don't bother with series as well, uncapped lets me watch it before dstv has it and I can watch it uninterrupted without stupid adverts.. :)

I never really watch TV anymore, but when i do sit down with the family, it's some crap that's been on before 80% of the time. Do that 24/7 mathemagics for me please...

DStv care very little for the viewer. Put on more cr@p channels and more and more repeats and just put the price up and up. Compare the cost of DStv and Sky UK. Not interested in being told it is a smaller data base in SA. Of course it is. It is so bloody expensive for very little. Try halfing the price and DStv might find the data base would more than double. I watch very litle DStv . All my TV comes from the UK using a slingbox for the cost of uncapped adsl connection for less than DStv sub (and I use the ASDL for lots of other things as well). Quality may not be HD but is excellent on my 42 LCD and the BBC programmes etc are not 5 to 30 years old. The News is good and not like ETV "Beano" 24 hour rolling news. Sorry DStv you had better pull your socks up cos there are everyday more and more ways to watch legally on WWW for far less not to mention better quality of content
RIP DStv

It does irritate me when I need to watch something to help me fall asleep - and its something I seen :(

“MultiChoice doesn’t schedule programmes but buys ready-made local and international channels. Each channel schedules new and recurring programmes according to a programme or movie’s license specification. MultiChoice arranges the channels into DStv packages and broadcasts the channels,” said Alberts.

I can understand this argument for something like Discovery channel, but doesnt ZeroChoice control the movie magic channels etc? Most of the repeat issue lies with M-Net to Movie Magic to that Stars channel?

I agree - comparing themselves to SKY etc on the topic of repeats, they should also mention the comparitive number of channels.

I've actually suspended my dstv account for a few months so they can catch up with some new material before I bother again with R600 per month.

I went to the UK for 2 years and when I came back, they were still showing the same movies...

We have DSTV 60% for their, 40% for the kids channels, I doubt even online you can get all their cricket/soccer streamed in SA, so until that becomes a viable option the money will(unfortunatly) keep going into their account.

If you are irritated by the reruns, then you are watching too much tv!

Where, those channels are not legit in South Africa so a huge problem there and then.

With our latency in 4MB+ lines, makes watching shows very frustrating. Why would you want to go through this pain? Besides sports (Rugby and Soccer mainly) what else is there on DSTv? Or am I missing something?
