So I've had it with the slow Mweb uncapped since their network "upgrade" three weeks ago. My Usenet downloads are running at less than 10% of what it did before. I have logged a fault but it seems they are unaware there is a problem, what is causing it, or how to fix it. Monday night all they had to offer as a solution is to "reset my profile". That was supposed to take an hour to propagate through their system. I waited a few hours and reset my router to make it log in again. There is no change: Astraweb + 4 Mbps account/line overnight downloads less than 1 GB.

Now I see from the forums that performance has been fine for many since a week ago (including colleagues in my office) but I also see it still does not for many others. That doesn't help me ... it used to work fine, it doesn't anymore.

I have confirmed my line is fine. It syncs at 3 Mbps and with my WebAfrica account it downloads at maximum speed. So the problem is Mweb. Note though that my email/web/gaming/streaming is fine, it's just Usenet.

To be honest I don't really need uncapped anymore. After having had it for almost a year, I find it hard to find anything interesting to download anymore. So I'm thinking of going for a capped account. My usage requirement is email/web/gaming/streaming and the occasional large download. Looking at my logs for the past while I'd say I'd be comfortable with around 100 GB per month. Alternatively maybe a 30 or 50 GB account will do and then use the one month prepaid uncapped voucher account from Axxess to top up a couple of times a year.

Since I have to give a months notice to Mweb, I'll cancel it this week. Perhaps they get their act together before the end of next month (when it ends) and maybe I'll consider keeping it, but at R539 a month I'm not so sure anymore.

Please recommend an alternative to SLOW Mweb uncapped ...

Anyone know where to cancel the account on the Mweb site? Can't seem to find it.

does anyone have the open web uncapped 384k Uncapped - R196 OR 4Mbps LITE R495? How does it work for you?

The requested URL /images/MWEB_Termination_Form.doc; was not found on this server.

I'd also like to know - I actually don't feel like paying for November considering how shocking their service is, and the constant lying about improvements are coming since April is a bit much.

I'll recommend that you contact TRL Technologies. Or visit their website at www.trltech.co.za.

Their "1 to 10Mb-Shaped" product states "Your ADSL line needs to be transfered/ordered to/from us.". That's a no no for me.

Also on the home page both "Uncapped DSL" and "No FUP uncapped" points to the same product and it states "Fair Use Policy apply to this account.".

Mayby we should also have some excuses like, sorry Mweb but my bank account got frozen and i cant pay you for your terrible service you gave me this time.

Or I am doing upgrades to my bank account, which should see only a few cents per day trickle through to you.

I see Afrihost has 50 GB for R475 (http://www.afrihost.com/site/product/adsl_capped). That could work for me (and save me R64).

Anyone with this account? Does it work well?

I see it states "* Until the 31st of December 2010, Afrihost is offering double bandwidth on all ADSL Capped Gold Packages.
On the 31st of December 2010 we will either revise our offering or extend the special. "

So does that mean you get 100 GB?

I think it's 25gb + 25gb for R475 (total 50gb). The account works well, no problems.

No, it does not point to the same product. You need to scroll down further on this link: http://www.trltech.co.za/whmcs/cart.php?gid=5. The "No FUP Uncapped" offerings are at the bottom of that page.

Anyway, by transferring your line to them they give you a rebate on your ADSL rental. If you cancel your services later on they will transfer the line back to Telkom without any hassles. Why would you want to pay more for something if you can pay less?

I'm a bandwidth hog and my usage for last month was over 255GB on my 4Mb line! TRL Technologies is the only ISP I know of that truly gives me value for my money. In the past I've used Afrihost, Mweb and Openweb - they all sucked as they overcharge us for an overshaped account.
