MEDE8ER been repacked from a chinese product?

Probably manufactured in the East for mede8er. Not worth the research/design/time/testing to do one locally if one is available overseas. My 2c

(never even touched a mede8er)
 
Probably .. what's important is can I get it cheaper from overseas?

Read the forums (do a search). They use the Realtek chipset, the Firmware(software) is designed and supported locally.

It's the same with the AC Ryan and other brands. As FrancTheTank mention it's not worth it to re-deveop something that alreay exist and is available for re-branding.. I have a Mede8er and the firmware is great, there's always new features being released/bug fixes etc which other Media Players lack.

Yes you can, but you won't get the same support as Mede8er, nor will you get the frequent updates..
 
surely if its the same thing with a different sticker, you can run mede8er firmware on it?

seriously considering getting on of these for my Christmas pressie! Got a 1.5tb sitting there, so can just pop that in!

Looking at that, I don't think it will work.. If it does it will be great as you can get it cheaper... If yu looking for a cheapr MP look at the Playon HD (ac ryan) it's slightly cheaper, similar hardware but different firmware, but it quite a popular MP so it should have good support..

Dude I mentioned on one of the other threads, go and get yourself the new media player from Esquire if you can, it's called acryan which you can hook up to your DSTV and record from it. It becomes your new PVR

Looks like an OEM product then... A lot of local and international brands sell Chinese stuff as their own.

Well it makes sense, setting up manufacturing plant for such a niche product locally would be financial suicide.

Indeed. You can't compete with the Chinese when it comes to price. You can beat them easily on quality though.
