DStv quality complaints - has MultiChoice responded to your complaint?

Nope....

they haven't. They have no idea what customer service ACTUALLY entails. The only reason I haven't told them to GTFO is because of the sport (and even that they screw up monumentally on a regular basis)

Not only does the audio suck, sometimes they just mess up the sequence of episodes. Last week they just dropped one day of Binnelanders with no rebroadcast of the correct episode.
Apart from that they only have two movie magic channels that run full screen - all the other channels are with massive black bars around them which renders a viewable 42" image on a 48" display.

They are pathetic.

MC basically just told us to go f@#k ourselves sugarcoated in a press release

HD and widescreen consumers only account for 15% of their subscriber base! Then why do the rest of us have to suffer with tiny pictures?

Also related to picture quality is the insistence of moving the broadcasting channels in parts of the Durban area in March/April 2010. This has resulted in our signal going from very clear to crap. Multichoice responds by telling us to tune our decoder to one of the three signals they can broadcast on. One is static and unwatchable. One has perfect picture but every five minutes it goes through a patch of static and skewed picture and the third is watchable but has lines. On a 40inch LCD the picture is almost unwatchable at times given the amount of noise in the picture. SABC 1, 2 and even 3 have none of these problems. MNET however has the worst picture quality of the lot.

I agree their customer service is terribly bad, almost non-existent. I don't ask for much in life but a decent TV with decent picture quality and decent programs that have not been played to death in the past month and a good internet connection. Its not much but it seems in SA its the gold under the rainbow.

Oh and try express your views on their forum and it gets "moderated", very childish. But wait MC will keep pi$$ing people off and the same will happen as what did with Telkom. People will and have jumped ship to a better provider

MultiChoice has an appalling customer service record. Simple things like activating ordeactivating services by SMS or in the internet is a waste of time. You MUST phone them, listen to awful "music" and speak to a "consultant" and hope and pray he understand the problem.

“We also analyse issues to pinpoint bigger problems with processes, etc to ensure issues raised do not recur.”

Well that is an absolute nonsense statement. I'd say 90% of the complaints on the forum are reoccurring problems.

I don't bother mentioning anything on the DSTV forum anymore purely out of frustration of having seen the same thing happen over and over again.

I'll give credit to those manning the forums though and passing on the message but unfortunately that is where it stops. It's management that needs to pull finger to stop reoccurring issues with video, audio, EPG etc etc and ensure better processes are in place.

I just cancelled DSTV. No point in it really for me as now with uncapped I just download movies/series. As for sport, I vpn into the UK and watch it on BBC...

Clicking on the article I was expecting something about the audio occasionally breaking up. But this:
VUZU and Universal channels being broadcast in mono only
Seriously?

sound played during the title card (or “banner”) of The Big Bang Theory on M-Net is very loud. Groenewald explained that in most cases, such as with the M-Net channel, DStv is only a platform for the broadcast to go out on. The most MultiChoice can do is take up the issue with the source.
Oh STFU. Even the most basic media player can normalize audio. Same for the damn ads.

MultiChoice doesn't want to address specific customer issues through MyBroadband, Groenewald added. This is because they have their own channels
Own channels where complaints mysterious get deleted. Like when users noticed that the quality of HD channels was quietly cut. First thread was deleted. When users created another one they realized their censorship isn't gonna work, so they merged it together with some other thread to ensure confusion.

I suspect that 15% have HD decoders.
More that 15% have WS TV's.

The correct process if for DSTV to transmit the image correctly, and rely on the decoder to render the image based on the size of the screen that is attached.
DSTV transmits some channels correctly, but most are transmitted in letterbox - which result in small images - even on HD+WS equipment.

There are very serious issues with the HD decoders.
We have been waiting since Aug 2008 for the HDPVR pile of ***** to get decent software updates.
It reboots, it's slow, it looses settings, etc.

I bet those 15% with the widescreen/HD equipment are the biggest spenders on hardware and DSTV subscriptions. They probably bring in more income for Multichoice than the 85% who don't have.

"MultiChoice provides their own forum for DStv subscribers to complain about picture and audio quality on the satellite TV service."

Their Forum is totally useless. I have tried to post numerous complaints on it and they don't even appear at all. Seems that their Forum is only there to serve them.

As to picture quality, we have had issues for around two years now but they still remain unresolved. This crapheads that are their management should be forced to sit in a room for two weeks and watch DSTV. I think after watching loads of reruns, insequential episodes of whatever and crap picture quality, maybe they will come to their senses and actually do something about it.

Sure, we have a choice (Yeah Right) and yes, we could cancel but then what...watch SABC or ETV ? Dammed if you do and Dammed if you don't. At least Paddy will do something with our Tax Money...mmhh the new Hotel in Sandton looks good.....

“Issues raised by customers through any platform (call centre, e-mail, DStv forum, twitter, facebook, etc) are taken very seriously,” commented MultiChoice spokesperson, Marietjie Groenewald.

I have repeatedly raised the issue of no English subtitles on Channel 250, and every time I get the following response: "There are no subtitles because there are none".

So must I learn Mandarin next time?

Classy.

MC basically just told us to go f@#k ourselves sugarcoated in a press release

Just for the sake of clarity, this wasn't a press release. I was contacted by a concerned DStv subscriber regarding these problems and contacted MultiChoice for comment.

Why did TopTv have to have such swak channels, I was loving the idea of competition for MonoChoice. SuperSport is the only thing keeping me from cancelling my R520 debit order. Wait, is that how much this is costing me?
Uncapped (streaming) is seeming more and more attractive...

Audio Issues

The thing that pisses me off the most is for instance is the volume level on Carte Blanche and the flighted ads in between is not being normalised.

Ads are extremely loud and Carte Blanche is way softer.

They are a bunch of MORONS

CLICK THE FU*KING normalise option ****

I have to disagree. As much as I hate them, their telecentre have improved alot in 2010, I call them alot for my own as well as my father in law's subscription and when calling from my phone number they assist with no problems. Their arcaic inlexible pricing is another thing alltogether. But I cant fault their call centre.
