Anybody heard of the rii mini?

I did my Christmas shopping yesterday and did my usual browse of Cafe Viva in Claremont for the latest gadgets and stumbled across this little gem.
My wife gifted me the rii for R579 and i could have gotten it cheaper online but she made me happy now.

Its called the rii mini keyboard and trackpad and claims to be the smallest of its kind in the world.
I was actually looking for a decent wireless keyboard and mouse for my bedroom multimedia pc and really am impressed with this nifty gadget.

It features a backlit screen, lithium battery that can last for around 1 month between charges,90 degree flip design touch pad for vertical use and a freakin laser pointer to irritate cats or do presentations like Michael Scott from the Office.

I had to choose between the Bluetooth(bluetooth enabled devices PS3,symbian,android or embedded bluetooth devices.)

Or 2.4 wireless, with a removable wireless dongle that fits into the rii and is compatible with all Pc's and even MAC.

I realize now that both models could have worked on my pc's and i instead opted the 2.4 wireless model.

I knew i should have gone bluetooth damn!(But i still love it!)

EDIT:My wife just snatched it away and put it back in its box.
I have to wait until Christmas.

Came across it a while back when trawling the web for an affordable alternative to the logitech dinovo mini. Glad to here at least one person is happy with it and that it's available locally.

I stole my early present from the clammy hands of my wife by giving her gift now to get my rii back ,and am busy trying to use a second generic 2.4 dongle to rig my lounge tv with the same rii device.

Had i got the bluetooth model i could have used the 2 bluetooth dongles i have lying around.

I hope this works, otherwise i am buying myself a second rii!

I cannot tell you how awesome and what a huge difference it makes browsing the web from my bedroom 32inch LCD and playing a FPS shooter with the rii, i reckon im going to mash the buttons with all my usage!

EDIT:I had interference with the 2.4 wireless conflicting with my devices.

Cafe viva is wonderful because they have a 7 day swap out policy,so i traded it for a newer rii.
Its called the itrivia palmkey.
This little baby has bluetooth so it works on all bluetooth embedded devices so it saves me money on extra dongles.
It supports symbian,android, ubuntu, linux and definitely macs too.
Only thing is that this model doesn't have a laser(torch) and keyboard layout is slightly different.

Otherwise its interference free.

I swapped it again!

The button placement on the trio and the need to use your pc's keyboard to login on the bluetooth model defeats the purpose of this device.
The mouse buttons on the left, instead of below the touchpad is awkward and lack of a proper dpad is actually a step backwards compared with the rii.

Back with the rii and a special thanks to Derrick from Cafe Viva for being so understanding and actually not charging me a handling fee for basically tampering with two devices.

Loyalty counts for something over there!

If ever you find yourself in a similar situation and actually have to decide between the two models,please note the major difference in layout and the bluetooth model not being able to login during powerup(bios settings changed for always on usb on 3 different pc's
still failed),and the price difference of R130.

I've had a rii for over 6 months now. Bought it on ebay for around $50. Does everything I need for my HTPC running xbmc. Only issue I've found is that after I resume my pc from sleep, the mouse sometimes refuses to work until I remove the receiver and plug it back in. Oh and the cat loves the laser pointer

Time to order one from DX for my HTPC, I reckon. Only 39 dolla.

What is the Bluetooth range? A quick Google says 30ft?

10 meters Budza, although i went outside at around 15 meters and it still worked through concrete walls.

This thing is awesome! I'm gonna have to source one here in Durbs.

Although @kayvee, hows the shipping prices and admin issues from DX to us in KZN?

Shipping is free, although it can take some while, but it varies. Or you can ship with EMS at extra. I am going to add it to my ever growing list. Just remember to add the drop shipment option so it comes in as a "gift".
