FroYo update only available in February for Samsung Galaxy S

samsung is loosing customers by the bucketload. next phone = HTC. Sorry Samsung. But I cant wait a year for an update that is already old before its released. Now I want Gingerbread. But that'll probably happen in like 20 years.

Samsung better get their act together regarding this and future updates or this will be my first and last Samsung phone.

I agree with the posters here. I love my Galaxy S, but the OS update support has been horrid from Samsung.

I just gave them a mouthfull in the comment section of the survey. I really hope they take this survey to heart.

Took quite a while (more than six months at least) after international release for the official 2.1 eclair update for my HTC Hero to be available in SA. Sounds like a similar story for Samsung. Don't be so sure that HTC is a better move.

HTC paved the way for updates over the air on MTN, why can't Samsung follow suite!

Please remember this phone has only been out for six months or so in south africa guys and almost everybody is still wrapping their heads around android.

We are getting froyo 2 months after the htc guys locally. Is it really that bad?

I'm not worried. February will be here in no time. Quit your whining and just enjoy the superb phone! :)

I have had this phone for like 3 months now and have been desperately waiting for the upgrade.
The problem is simply that you spend a premium on a device that is supposed to be amazing and then you expect the support to be a premium too.If the phone had no issues on 2.1 it would be fine, however you start to find that what is supposed to be one of the top smart phones on the market has MANY issues, the most annoying being the lag and GPS issues.

This is all corrected in 2.2, so stop delaying and send out the update!

I have given up on Samsung SA for updates. This phone has gone though many firmware revision abroad all newer than the one run locally.
This includes newer official 2.1 firmwares, a few official 2.1 and two official 2.2.1 firmwares abroad.

2.2 Adds allot of speed due to the JIT compiler and 2.2.1 solves most of the lag issues. GPS is also improved with every firmware release.
Other countries have been enjoying these updates for months now and SA has seen none of it.

I have updated unofficially to the latest stock firmware(JPY - 2.2.1) and anyone still on 2.1 is missing out. By the time SA release a firmware update it had better not be 2.2 but 2.2.1 or better. Then they must not stop there and start working on the next firmware release. Users of this phone expect regular updates. I myself opted for 2-3 months after a new android version is released by google. But not 2-3 months after a Samsung variant it has been released abroad. Also while there are known issues and problems those though be address immediately within weeks rather than months.

Since I have taken matter into my own hand and upgraded myself I should really not have to care. But I had to void my warranty to do so. So if I buy a phone in the future this will be taken into consideration.

I am so glad i rooted my device... once you flash a superior custom rom from XDA (Darky's V7+ for example), you never look back!

The cellphone companies need to wake-up. The new smartphones being released since last year will retain their usefulness for a long time, and they need to recognize that. The Galaxy S is not going to be obsolete in 6 or 12 months time, even if a new quad-core, 4gig, infinite battery phone with a 21mp camera is released tomorrow. They must support the new generation of phones for longer, since vendor OS support will start to play a big role in purchasing decisions, or at least in mine.

Samsung just updated their blog to reflect that the FroYo update will actually be coming to Kies. I've updated the article accordingly.

If other makers can get their ducks in row in reasonable time, why can't Samsung. Incredibly disappointing. After sales service is just as important as the flick-flacks initially done over the counter.
