LTE is designed to reach the theoretical limit of bandwidth that can be squeezed through the air interface under user conditions <200Mbps. Hence Long Term Evolution. The problem all over the word remains backhaul. Fiber cannot hit the ground fast enough.
 
And in SA of course the cost of R300 per gig means you will never use any web technologies that benefit from this speed.

Anyways I was just poking fun at how nothing to do with LTE is 'Long Term'. Not its development cycle, adoption rate, nor probably its longevity as the 'top dog' wireless system.

LTE is not a concept, but rather an actual protocol specification, and its successor LTE Advanced (real 4G offering speeds up to 1Gbps to users) is due to be finalised later this year.
 
Uzbekistan...........if they can invest..............surely SA can!!

It should not be much longer. Vodacom has already done a demonstration in the Midrand lab. The problem is getting spectrum for a public network running LTE. The delays in DTTV deployment is holding up the Digital divedent and there is still confusion as to how spectrum will be allocated in the 2.6ghz band for LTE. Its a mess.
