Yeah the Yamaha 367 was the one that I was looking at for now.Maybe leave the sound to someone that understand a little more?
Anyhow zenbaas ... before you look at the *chuckle* Sony, take a look at the Yamaha 367 which, if memory serves, is R4,000.00. Even the 467 is about R6,000.00 and add a decent 5.1 system and even though you would have spent slightly more, you'll have much better sound ... and one that can do sound over HDMI, HDMI 1.4, 3D Ready, larger power supply and just better.
If your budget is tight and you can't get another R2k or R3k - then there is nothing wrong with the Sony. But if you can extend the budget by a few thousand, the difference is worth it IMO

I may be willing to stretch myself a little bit if it will be worth it![]()
All in one systems don't do it for me. I'd rather have an awesome set of floorstanding fronts, running in stereo, than a k@k 5.1 all in one special.
IMO half the fun is in building your own 5.1 system.
That Yamaha set is similar to PC speakers, where you have satellites (treble/highs) and a sub (bass/lows) without decent mids, so your mid range is non-existent - a no-no for sound quality
Don't judge by the sizes of the speakers.
Dude, where did I judge by the size of the speakers?
That much is given, just emphasising my disdain for these packages that you find at Game and Makro. For music and other stereo stuff... I agree.
But you won't be getting surround sound from your HD PVR/HD rips/etc.
Sure, but you buy as you can afford it. There's no pressure in having to get everything at once.Agreed. At a price, though.

What did you mean if you didn't mean that? :/

I'd honestly rather watch a movie on a good stereo system than a crap 5.1 one.

ummmm, so wheres the bargains??
Definitely. I'd even say that the speakers may not be half bad, however it's the receiver that lets everything down. HDMI repeating is a must for me.Would you agree that the Sony STR-500 http://www.sony.co.za/product/ht-str500 is a huge step up from, say, these? http://www.makro.co.za/p/36488/sony-5-1-home-theatre-system/
