Telkom Netgear DG834GU v5 firmware

Has anyone upgraded the firmware on this modem and which one is to be used:
1.6.01.34 or 6.00.25 on this page: http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2327

Has anyone else had issues with dynamic dns (dyndns.org) with this router - hoping a firmware upgrade will resolve...

I recently bought the same modem from Telkom, was also wondering where to find its updates. The link you gave is for model DG834Gv5 not DG834GU v5 , i'm not sure if the U makes any difference. Maybe thats why I struggled so much finding the device on the website.

I currently have firmware version TKV6.00.26 on mine (Still box firmware). This specific version doesn't even show on the website.

If you do update, post results here please :D

Sorry to hijack the thread, but... has anyone else with this router found that the wireless on it is almost unusable?

I found I would have to power cycle it multiple times a day just to be able to connect wirelessly. Moreover, the speed was so slow that it acted as a bottleneck - I could download files 2 - 5x as fast by plugging in to the router - and this was in the same room as the router, with direct line of sight to the aerial.

The router has Telkom’s customised firmware on it, the firmware from the NetGear site won’t work. The Netgear DG834GU is the version they give to ISP’s so you won’t find the router model on the Netgear site.
You’ll have to wait for Telkom to release new firmware, if ever..

And that is how I understand it.

I died a little bit inside

It's buggy firmware and you have to restart the router all the time. It doesn't work with new Android phones, just the first time you reboot the router. What a waste of time.

This ADSL modem is terrible.

I had to replace it with a D-Link DSL-2500U just to get my ADSL line stable, so now the Netgear DG834GUv5 is just a WiFi AP.

I switched off its DHCP server and let my MikroTik RB750 assign the IP addresses, and all our wireless devices (iPad, Android Phone [Nexus S], BlackBerry & Laptop) works with it all the time. I never have to reset the Netgear at all.

Unfortunately I don't know what firmware version the Netgear is using, and I won't be able to get the version number before the 8th of January. My guess is that it would be TKV6.00.26.

Aah. The memories. The hair-pulling. This was Netgear & Telkom's illegitimate baby. Nobody wanted it. Bin it and buy again. Beware of any hardware with the Telkom logo as it means Telkom have invariably ensured the device is fubar.
