I live in George and ordered ADSL in July this year. Of course I still do not have it and Telkom keep giving me the same story about my line not being validated. Nobody at Telkom can tell me what it means to be validated nor are they able to "make this happen".

In the past month or two I noticed this green box appear next the old grey Telkom exchange box in my area, I was hoping someone would be able to identify this for me. Does it possibly have anything to do with ADSL or is it just some random box that has appeared in my area. I appreciate the help.

Also if you know any tips and tricks on how I can get Telkom to just validate the damn line (or what validation means), please let me know.

Here's the photo I took earlier:

The picture is just a "distribution patch panel" where all the local loop wires from the neigburhood comes together. This box is in turn connected to a bigger exchange somewhere closeby.

DSLAM devices are bigger and need airconditioning. They are usually contained in a small building structure.

I see

Thanks Franna, does that mean the DSLAMs might not even be that near to this grey box?

Telkom have been promising me that it will be done soon but things just aren't materialising.

Lol, when I first saw the topic of this thread I thought some poor telkom techy needed some help... "What does a DSLAM look like anyway?" LOL :D

Now if you could open the box and give us a peak, then we'll have something more conclusive to work with. :D
