Holistic broadband strategy for SA

How about scrapping the restrictive regulations and license requirements. Let the market sort itself out.

Who will be to blame if a tower I put up and a tower you put up use the same frequency? Or my high-power transmission equipment causes your WiFi or gate motor to stop functioning? There is a concern in the US right now that certain LTE equipment may cause GPS to stop working, which the FCC is investigating.

Yep... They did it in Kenya and they are leading the continent now in broadband access. The big players are salivating to get fair access to our market, invest in our country and bring instant benefit to the consumer. We have a potentially huge and profitable industry, but instead the cadres are short sighted and so afraid to let go of their cash cows that they'll just rather let our country rot.

It sickens me...

After saying that - Please consider the pros of the system in the US. How much money their system generates. How much benefit it brings to their citizens. And then please tell me that it's not the right thing to open up the market.

LET the Big International Operators IN

LET the Big International Operators IN

Bharti Airtel wants to enter the Mobile Broadband & Voice Space in SA
Etisalat wants to enter the Mobile Broadband & Voice Space in SA
Globacom wants to enter the Mobile Broadband & Voice Space in SA

Let them in with the Digital Dividend Spectrum.

Enough Spectrum to roll-out a national wireless Broadband Network at 700mhz.

Lets have low call rates and cheaper broadband.
VodaCom , MTN & Telkom are holding this country to ransom.

ICASA must make it easier for International heavyweight Telecom Operators to bring their cash into SA and Develop the Infrastructure. We need it please.
