Anyone else having problems accessing International sites etc?
I'm using WebAfrica atm.

Regards,
milo

Looks down from here, as well as international DNS resolution. Local is working.

Hey guys,

We are experiencing an International Outage at the moment.
Customers will not be able to access International websites or services. Our Network engineers are currently investigating and are working to have this issue resolved as soon as possible.

I'll have some more feedback shortly.

At this stage we are aware of a portion of our upstream provider's section of SAT3 is currently down.
Unfortunately I don't have an ETA as yet.

does WA not have access to SEACOM?

We don't no. We're looking at getting access to WACS when it's launched.
From what I've been told it's not the entire SAT3 cable that is down, but rather a section between our Upstream Providers.

Why pay more for something that has one Point Of Failure???

Guys, I know how frustrating this is.
I'm also keeping fingers crossed that things get sorted out asap.

Unfortunately all ISP's do experience outages from time to time. We've been extremely stable up until now. I'm sure things will get sorted out as soon as possible. Keeping everyone updated here.

I pay R6.66 a gig with WA, i get low latency(wow) and 400kbs downloads, im happy

Thanks for the update Jeff. It would be good to see when WA have access to WACS. You guys do a great job thus far.

For those complaining, implement your own redundancy in the meantime, ie. buy a 1GB Afrihost account, that way you can switch to the SEACOM access yourself.

Regards,
milo

WAJeff, frustration is when you can't download porn because of the outage.

This is something else entirely, seeing that it occurred during business hours, and there are businesses that rely on your service. Are there no redundant links in place?

I have not been happy with Web Africa's service. I have a 4mb line that is slower streaming Video vie youtube than my old SAIX account with a 384k line.

bboy how are you getting R6.66/GB with WA??
I would go to their site and check but its down atm :P

Quick update here on redundancy:

I've spoken to our Head Network Engineer who corrected my one post, my apologies for posting incorrect information.
We do have SEACOM fail-over, however due to routing issues there are problems in switching this over. More updates to follow.

You should check your line attenuation and noise margin, they are probably not optimal since you upgraded to 4mb. If that is the case downgrading your line will improve those figures and then obviously improve your line quality.

Or get one free :D

I'm also very happy with my WA account, btw.
